April 30, 2020 3 min read

The month of April has come and gone, and with that we decided it was time to address something we have not talked about much lately.

For many of us the last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind of social distancing, Netflix and reading way too many articles about COVID19. With that in mind, we wrote about a few things the Urban Beard team have been up to during isolation that have help keep us sane.

We make routines, then break them.

We’ve read that it’s important to try to maintain some level of normalcy during this pandemic but depending on where you live that’s downright near impossible. A lot of our friends have been laid off or are working from home, using “Netflix Party” to host virtual parties, and we’ve all got at least two people in our friends group sending way too many Zoom invites.

The worlds far from normal, your 9 – 5 grinds now exists between your bedroom, couch and kitchen, so shake it up a bit. As opposed to going to bed and waking up at the same time throw things off by an hour or two.

Hygiene is still key – this is not an excuse to develop your own unique form of man or lady musk.

If you can exercise, try making some time in the mid-afternoon. There is a ton of free exercise classes being hosted on Instagram live or via apps check a few out!

Yeah, we linked to Good House Keeping…you get the reference?

Movies, Music, Reading.

We have never been more spoiled by the amount of content available to us. Tiger King is the gift no one knew they needed in their life and unless you are living under a rock, Spotify and Apple Music will literally make playlists for you (or you could check out ours).

Start your night off by opening three tabs on your laptop – many of us have Prime Video, Netflix and some other video on demand service like Disney+ or HBO (Crave). There is a ton of great movies across all these platforms, invest in watching “classics” you may have missed.

Now is as good as a time of any to watch all 9 Star War films and write a 3000-word essay on how badly the studios botched episodes 1 – 3 and 7 – 9. Or there is a list of the top 101 “Guy Movies” on IMDB that you could watch.

Alternatively, you could pick up a book you bought off Amazon two years ago and never started, up to you.

Give your beard a little more TLC

This wouldn’t be an Urban Beard blog post if we didn’t plug beard care, but seriously what else are you doing with yourself? I for one have started to let my beard grow wild, I will worry about shaping it when I can get back in to see my barber. In the meantime, avoiding the itchy feeling while I grow out my mane is my number one priority.

I set aside half an hour each day to make sure I am taking good care of my scruff. During my shower I start by rubbing the Cleansing Conditioner into my beard. I keep my face away from the water and try to let this sit for a couple of minutes while I scrub down before taking a few second to rinse it out. I dry my beard with a towel as best I can before mixing in a small dab of the Peppermint Beard Butter into my beard, then I use a beard brush to make sure it’s evenly distributed.

I only use the Shampoo Bar once or twice a week while I’m in the shower, usually I’ll lather up and scrub my beard for a minute before using the Cleansing Conditioner.

A couple hours later I’ll usually find myself bored out of my skull, so I’ll head back up to the washroom and rub some of the Artisan Beard Oil between my hands and apply it to my beard. Again, using my beard brush to make sure it is mixed in properly. Got to look handsome for all those virtual dates.

In all seriousness the last couple weeks have been difficult for everyone. If you feel like your mental health has taken a hit there are great resources available to Canadian’s that you can access over the phone 1-855-242-3310 or if you’ve lost your job the Canadian Government has announced comprehensive measures to help you or your business – available here: https://www.canada.ca/en/department-finance/economic-response-plan.html

We hope you are all able to stay safe and healthy.

Love,

The Urban Beard Team
